Abstract: Trusted Portable Navigator (T-PN) for mobile devices is a new, reliable, accurate and economical way to obtain continuous navigational information using pre-existing sensors of the mobile device when traditional methods for navigation ceases to work. The T-PN is a computationally efficient software that can cope with high rate sensor data. Mobile phones and portable devices with navigation and entertainment capabilities often contain Micro-Electro Mechanical Sensors (MEMS) inertial sensors that are utilized by the T-PN to provide position to the user when satellite signals are degraded or absent in urban canyons or deep indoor environments. The solution also provides the heading of the user, the 3D orientation of the device and the user's velocity; all of this without imposing any restriction on the usage of the device. The T-PN software development kit (SDK) is a highly modularized and flexible SDK that can easily be configured to fit a variety of mobile and portable devices. TPI has pending patents that estimate sensor errors, autonomously detect the mode of transit, and correct for changing misalignments. These patents make the T-PN a unique navigation software that is truly user friendly and converts the very low cost MEMS inertial sensors into trusted positioning and attitude navigation systems.
