Abstract: In this paper, we calculate the probability distribution of the time-to-first-fix (TTFF) for a model of an assisted GPS receiver in an indoor environment. We express the probability distribution of the acquisition time of a single satellite using the flow graph method developed by Polydoros [10], improved by using the fast Fourier transform to calculate the results efficiently. We then derive the probability of acquisition of P satellites and the TTFF probability distribution. We use measurements of the fading in a representative indoor environment to illustrate the theoretical analysis by calculating the probability distribution of the TTFF in this case. The method can be used to evaluate the TTFF for any percentile, such as 90%.
