Assessment of DVB-T Impact on GNSS Acquisition and Tracking Performance

J. Fortuny-Guasch, M. Wildemeersch, D. Borio

Abstract: Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial (DVB-T) has been identified as one of the main sources of unintentional interference in the GPS L1 and Galileo E1 band. In this paper, the impact of the third harmonic of DVB-T transmissions is analysed. The acquisition performance is studied in terms of ROC curves for three different decision strategies. The degradation of tracking performance is also determined in terms of tracking jitter. A modified record and playback methodology is developed and used to test software and hardware receivers. The proposed methodology along with the theoretical findings provide a complete view of the potential threat of DVB-T broadcasting on GNSS signals.
