Abstract: | Septentrio’s Galileo Test User Receiver was tested to assess the pseudorange code measurement noise on the various Galileo signals, under truly operational circumstances. Such an assessment includes a quantification of the noise-level, as well as noisecorrelations. Figures found represent full End-to-End user performance, including the receiver chain and its direct environment. In this test we consider simultaneous pseudorange measurements on L1 (E1-C), E5a (Q), E5b (Q), and E5-AltBOC (Q) to GIOVE-B. Using data collected under truly operational circumstances over several days, the thermal noise standard deviation ranged from 7 cm on E1, to just over 1 cm on E5-AltBOC pseudorange measurements. Hence, superior performance – on the aspect of thermal noise – of the 50 MHz wideband Galileo E5-AltBOC signal is confirmed, using actual data. As two antennas were tested successively at exactly the same location, a comparison can be made with regard to their multipath susceptibility. Multipath effects account for about 10 cm (in terms of standard deviation) on E1, and only 3 cm on E5-AltBOC with the high-end antenna. With the reference antenna, the multipath figure for E1 gets doubled, whereas they remain approximately the same for E5a, E5b and E5-AltBOC. Also with regard to multipath, the Galileo E5-AltBOC clearly outperforms all other signals. |
