NavFire^TM Guidance System - An Integrated GPS and Mission Computer for Future Navigation Systems

Abstract:	Today’s weapon applications desire greater accuracy using multiple navigation sensors integrated together which results in a lengthy and costly integration. Rockwell Collins has developed the NavFire Guidance System (NFGS) to support reducing integration time while simultaneously providing a high level of functionality. The NFGS provides a mission computer, power conditioning, signal conditioning, and a 2-channel Anti-Jam GPS receiver packaged in a 45 x 40 mm cylindrical form factor. The NFGS is designed for flexibility by allowing the user to supply tailored guidance and navigation control algorithms for their application(s). With this flexibility, the NFGS can be used on a wide array of applications from artillery to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). To support artillery applications, the NFGS is gunhardened up to 25,000 g and has the ability to support upfinding, roll angle, and roll rate through the use of an internal magnetometer or using the Advanced Spinning Vehicle Navigation (ASVN) feature. Additionally, the NFGS supports initialization of artillery applications using an Enhanced Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setter (EPIAFS) interface and handling the EPIAFS message protocol. The 2-channel Anti-Jam GPS receiver includes the SAASM 3.7 which integrates 36 acquisition channels, 48 tracking channels, and over 9000 correlators to support reduced Power to First Fix (PTFF) times and greater operational performance.
