Abstract: The paper describes how GOLDEN-ICE project will integrate advanced navigation and emergency technologies within the existing winter maintenance products and services. In particular the use of EGNOS and the interface towards EDAS will provide remarkable improvements in terms of accuracy of the salt-spreading machine’s position and it will reduce significantly the amount of salt needed for de-icing operation with a considerable limitation of the environmental pollution. A dedicated Augmentation Module will certify the reliability of the estimated user position through a method based on the Protection Level computation and integrity monitoring. This innovative strategy will guarantee precisely which roads the snow ploughs have passed along and the amount of salt has been spread.
