Abstract: | Satellite navigation has gained enormous popularity in the consumer market and has entered public as well as professional life. The introduction of convenient car navigation systems has paved the way for several more sophisticated GNSS applications in vehicles; this includes applications with strong reliability and integrity constraints. Some of these applications are road tolling, anti-theft systems and fleet management systems, up to hazardous goods tracking and safety critical transportation. Nevertheless current tracking systems are vulnerable to intentional signal interference (jamming) and signal deception (spoofing). Several applications attract misusage of the system as well as attempts to corrupt the systems algorithms, e.g. to avoid road billing or penalties for violations of road traffic regulations. The PUMA project focuses on the development of a low-cost, large scale adaptable jamming and spoofing detection and mitigation system to provide secure and precise vehicle tracking. Major system components are a commercial of the shelf (COTS) GPS/EGNOS receiver as main sensor, a customized dead reckoning (DR) module using the vehicle built-in sensors, a dedicated jamming and spoofing detection and mitigation module, and COTS communication components to provide an attractive, highly reliable and convenient mass market product. |
