Investigation on the High Frequency Readout System for Dithering Ring Laser Gyros

Abstract: The traditional sampling rate in readout system of ring laser gyros (RLG) is equal to the full dithering period. Because of the low dithering frequency (generally hundreds of Hertz), the readout system causes serious errors of RLG under highly dynamic environment. The high frequency readout system (HFRS) of RLG is necessary to be developed for decreasing the random noise and expanding the output bandwidth of RLG. Investigation on the HFRS of RLG, including the dithering angle sensor (DAS), its signal correction and signal processing algorithm, etc., was completed in the paper. As shown by the test results, the static accuracy and dynamic performance of RLG with the newly developed HFRS have been improved in comparison with the RLG with traditional readout system.
