Abstract: | Joint data/pilot tracking for modernized GNSS signals is often overlooked as it risks compromising the advantages of utilizing the pilot channel alone. In this paper, a novel joint data/pilot carrier phase tracking method with an adaptive noise bandwidth algorithm is proposed. A complete description of its design in the digital domain is provided and advantages as compared to a similar design in the analog domain are also highlighted. Detailed numerical simulations have been used to validate the proposed algorithm. Live GPS-L2C signals are used to further analyse the performance, in terms of tracking threshold, of the proposed joint data/pilot tracking method. Results indicate no significant performance loss (approximately 1 dB) when using the proposed joint data/pilot tracking. On the contrary, joint data/pilot tracking has been shown to be more effective under weak signal and dynamic conditions. |
