Strategic Testing at the Central Inertial Guidance Test Facility

Robert S. Lawrence, Cleon H. Barker and Reese C. Sturdevant

Abstract: The 46th Test Group (Holloman AFB) Central Inertial Guidance Test Facility (CIGTF) 746th Test Squadron is a premier facility for system and component level testing of strategic guidance and control systems, inertial navigation systems and Global Positioning Systems. Since its inception in 1959 to create consistent reference standards for inertial guidance and navigation systems, CIGTF maintains a complex variety of laboratory and field test capabilities. Laboratory facilities consist of simulators, centrifuges, rate tables, stable platforms, linear vibrators, and environmental chambers. Field facilities consist of van, aircraft, and sled testing, supported by a variety of reference systems. This paper will present the history of CIGTF’s test development and capabilities relating to specific program requirements.
