A Laboratory Testbed for GNSS Interference Impact Assessment

Abstract: Radio frequency interference (RFI) is of high interest due to the increasing number of wireless applications and the corresponding high occupancy of the spectrum. Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) are in particular vulnerable for interference, since the received signal power levels are very low. In this paper, we present a laboratory testbed for the evaluation of the impact of RFI on GNSS signals. The error vector magnitude (EVM) is proposed as a metric to quantify the performance reduction in the presence of interfering signals. The signal quality is analysed in different interference scenarios. The measurement results show that the EVM is a valuable metric for signal quality and receiver performance estimation.
