Abstract: | This paper describes prototype VRSS (Virtual Reality Ship Simulator), training equipment that we have recently developed based on the virtual reality technology. The prototype VRSS mainly consists of VR devices to create virtual space and databases to construct virtual navigation environments. These databases are constituted with 3D object models and coefficients for the head related transfer functions. We first describe design methodology and the system components. Then, we present results on the simulation experiments using the prototype VRSS for the overtaking situation between two vessels to avoid collision at sea. We conclude with discussion of evaluation results on the simulation experiments. |
