Abstract: | The Galileo Service Centre (SC) prototype development falls within the GAlileo Reference MIssion Support (GARMIS) programme. This programme is funded by the European Union (EU)’s 6th Framework Programme (FP), managed by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA) and coordinated by FDC in France. It aims to further address the precise definition of what the Galileo system can provide to users in terms of Mission, Services and Signals. Within the GARMIS consortium, Logica were responsible for the Galileo SC prototype technical management, requirements analysis and consolidation, design, development (through a 4 phased development iteration cycle) and prototype acceptance. This paper is intended to provide a description of the Galileo SC developed for the In-Orbit Validation (IOV) phase of the Galileo programme. It highlights the functional scope of the SC with focus on the design within some key functional areas of the system. The paper starts with an introduction before providing an overview of the SC by setting it into context and describing the scope of the SC. The technical aspects of the SC are then captured with a description of the physical architecture of the system. This highlights the use of Virtual Machine (VM) technology and its benefits. The principal application components are then described. The focus of the remainder of the paper is on the three main functional areas of the system. This covers: • Key Distribution and Management; • Commercial Service (CS) and • Report Distribution. An overview is provided on each functional area with description of the implementation aspects. |
