Abstract: | The Galileo system is designed for very demanding performance requirements in terms of integrity, continuity, accuracy, and availability. Especially the required global integrity service availability imposes complex system architectures at space, ground, and user segment level. Obviously such complex system design automatically satisfies also less demanding performance requirements and user needs. The present paper starts with a summary of the current Galileo system performance under FOC (Full Operational Capability) configuration, taking the relevant segment performance status into account. The segments are currently deployed and are in their integration and validation phase. The paper reflects the current Galileo system performance status for the Open Service, as well as Safety-of-Live service accordingly via global and local availability maps of achievable accuracy and integrity. Between the main Galileo project deployment phases IOV (In Orbit Verification) and FOC, several subconstellations are possible, which already satisfy different user group needs and provide good performances in various areas. The paper presents such Galileo performance for different constellations with respect to space and ground segment, as well as with respect to different requirements that already satisfy various user needs. This includes beside the very demanding aviation groups also maritime applications and other possible Galileo users. Detailed availability maps over Europe, WAAS region, globally, etc. depending on the deployed constellation and accuracy and integrity specifications will be presented and Galileo’s capability to cope with different user expectations is presented. This results in possible and feasible Galileo services that can already be offered in early deployment stages prior to FOC. |
