New Approach for Integer Ambiguity Resolution using Interval Analysis

Abstract: A new algorithm is proposed for resolving the integer ambiguities encountered in GNSS carrier phase observations. The algorithm is based on Interval Analysis, which deals with computations on intervals of numbers instead of crisp numbers. The advantage of optimization algorithms using interval analysis is that they will detect all solutions within a search space, compared to the classical algorithms that only find a local solution closest to some initial point. In this paper we show how interval analysis can be used to resolve the integer ambiguities by taking a geometrical approach, resulting in a nonlinear optimization problem. Using interval analysis it can be guaranteed that the found integers are the correct ones.
