Abstract: This paper presents conceptual designs of C-band user terminals and an initial result of acquisition performance analysis on the next generation European satellite-based navigation system. First, possible user terminal architectural concepts were designed based on the identified service definitions to have a special functionality, e.g., array antenna for high precision gain, data authentication module for commercial purpose high-end users, code decryption module for authorized or governmental users and so on. Second, signal acquisition performance for each signal candidate of identified service definition was analyzed. Detailed acquisition time performances in terms of dwell time and mean acquisition time, considering physical user terminal parameters and system requirements as well as the expectation on digital processing power and technological evolution, were considered.
