A Study of Power Transmission Line Detection at Millimeter-Wave Radar

Hiroyuki Yamaguchi, Shogo Hayashi and Akihiro Kajiwara

Abstract: This paper presents high-voltage power transmission line detection scheme by millimeter-wave (MMW) radar for the purpose of helicopter collision avoidance. In order to improve the detection performance, a correlation processing based on the Bragg scattering of power line is suggested. For the evaluation, a Monte Carlo simulation is carried out both at 94GHz and 35GHz where K-distributed clutter is considered. The results show that our suggested scheme can improve the performance depending on the operating frequency.
