Abstract: | The Safety Regulation Group of the UK CAA is investigating the use of GPS in helicopter operations in the North Sea through an on-going programme of research. During ION GPS-97 the authors reported [1] on that programme in a paper which presented the general background to the work and gave preliminary conclusions from the flight trials which had been conducted. This present paper updates that report. The preliminary conclusions given then are first refined and extended. The current focus of the ongoing work is then presented, showing how simulations are used to extend the value of the data recorded during the trials. The paper concludes with some tentative results from the simulation work. |
