Abstract: | New GNSS systems and new navigation signals are coming! This scenario poses the attention on infrastructures able to generate, receive and manage the new navigation signals, such as the new EU navigation satellite system (GALILEO), the new GPS signals L5, the COMPASS system and so on. These novelties need to be studied so to develop applications and receivers able to manage and to exploit them. In this scenario, in Italy, a test range able to manage, to generate and to receive the GNSS signals was carried out. The GTR (Galileo Test Range) is a system able to generate on ground GNSS signal using signals transmitters, to receive navigation signals thanks to some receivers and sensors station deployed on ground and to develop and prototype applications by the laboratories included in the system. The GTR experimental area and facilities are located in northeast of Rome. It was funded by the Regione Lazio project (through FILAS activities) in the frame of its support to technical research and innovation in satellite navigation. The system was developed and coordinated by a Consortium Agreement composed by Thales Alenia Space Italia, Finmeccanica and Telespazio with the operative support of Fi.La.S. S.p.A. a regional company dedicated to the support of innovation in the Regione Lazio. This paper shows the performance test results carried out in the frame of the GTR (Galileo Test Range) project. The results obtained and showed in this article demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system and the benefit introduced in the test area. |
