Abstract: | Multiple SBAS systems are now available or under development and will be available in the near future. However, the current operational systems or systems under development provide augmentations to a single constellation – GPS only. As there will be more global GNSS systems such as Galileo and Compass available in the near future, it is a nature evolution that the future SBAS systems, the upgrade versions of the existing systems or new systems, will support augmentations to multiple global GNSS constellations. The Finnish Geodetic Institute, Institute Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy of the University of Nottingham, and the Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping have developed a prototype system of multiconstellation augmentation based on the EGNOS signal in space and Galileo simulation under a project co-funded by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority. The context of the project covers the prototype development of Galileo simulation, the Galileo SBAS message generation and dissemination, and a Pocket PC-based user terminal. An innovative approach to simulate the Galileo orbit and clock errors is presented in this paper. It is based on the assumption that the Galileo satellites will have a similar response to the Earth potential field and other forces as that of the GPS satellites. For the simulation, the errors models are derived by using the IGS precise orbits and GPS ephemeris. The simulated Galileo orbit and clock errors should be close to the errors in real situation. This provide a more realistic performance using the simulated measurements. Although the prototype system is not in a quality for the 7/24 operation. However is well suited for system design/analysis or demonstration of a multi-constellation augmentation service as the system has the features such as user configurable positioning modes, supporting realtime GPS input and RINEX for Galileo, data log and replay for demonstration and post processing. |
