Abstract: | In this paper the design of two kinds of carrier tracking loops for GNSS receivers are presented. The known FLLassisted- PLL structure is improved by the use of optimum digital filters and taking into account the effect of the FLL to the PLL at the design stage. A new PLL, named the UFA PLL, is introduced. It uses the Unambiguous Frequency Aided (UFA) phase discriminator and includes the advantages of adding an FLL to a PLL with optimum digital loop filter. Both loops show significant resistance to high dynamics and to false locks, with the UFA PLL having the extra advantage of avoiding cycle slips. Simulations and tests with real RF signals in a real time implementation of these loops in a GPS receiver are shown. This results confirm a tracking capacity of up to 40g of the presented example, without increasing the computational burden of usual loop implementations. |
