Abstract: | The Center for Remote Sensing Inc. pioneered software based-real time receiver technology has released the first software radio ionospheric monitoring receiver, IONMGPS-001-04, with a patented built in calibration designed to meet the demands of increased accuracy and flexibility. This digital receiver has been designed and built from the ground up (not based on, or limited by available GPS engines) to be the worlds most sensitive, precise, and easy to use ionospheric and atmospheric monitoring GPS receiver. Using the built in calibrator, the IONMGPS-001-04 is capable of measuring absolute TEC to a precision less then 0.1 TECU and displays and logs all GPS data at up to a 50 Hz rate, and the software architecture allows for simulating and compensating biases on scintillation parameter calculation by tracking loop filters. Precise atmospheric and ionospheric monitoring requires a specialized receiver architecture and features not available in conventional GPS navigation receivers. These include precise and independent monitoring of differential phase between L1 and L2, measurement of pseudorange that is unbiased by smoothing techniques, as well as robust and unbiased tracking of phase under scintillating and variable ionospheric or propagation conditions. The CRS GPS receiver has been designed from the ground up to meet these requirements, and provide the most accurate and easy to use scientific GPS monitoring solution available. |
