Comparison Between BOC CBOC and TMBOC Tracking

JJ. Floc'H and Matthias Soellner

Abstract: This paper deals with the different options of the MBOC signal with respect to its impact on signal performance. The Galileo L1 signal consists of the multiplexing of three components that are respectively: - The L1-A channel corresponding to Public Regulated Signals - The L1-B channel is used to transmit navigation data, ranging codes are modulated with BOC(1,1) pulse shape. - The L1-C channel is a pilot channel, ranging codes are also modulated with BOC(1,1) pulse shape. The three components of the L1 signal are multiplexed using a modulation insuring a constant envelope for the signal before band limitation. With the MBOC signal, the BOC(1,1) modulations are overlaid (at least partly) by a small contribution of a BOC(6,1) modulation. Two main options are differentiated: - CBOC - TMBOC In a first step, a time domain sequence will be presented as well as an I-Q-diagram of constant envelope for each signal option. In a second step, three receivers architecture will be described: - Mass market receiver with only a BOC(1,1) tracking signal - A complex user receiver with a MBOC tracking signal option - A ground reference receiver with a MBOC tracking signal option In a third step the code-/carrier-phase tracking performances (jitter and bias) for the different signal options are predicted for the three different receivers including Gaussian noise in the channel, and three models of multi-path environments often considered: - A multipath model representative of a fixed user environment - A multipath model representative of a rural pedestrian environment - A multipath model representative of a rural vehicle environment. For this environment, the dynamic of the vehicle will be included in the simulations. The analysis will be done: - Considering a fixed early late spacing, the code- /carrier-phase tracking performance will be calculated in function of the C/N value.
