Abstract: | The civil aviation organizations worldwide are implementing Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) to meet the accuracy, integrity, availability, and continuity requirements for the safety critical aviation applications. Currently, non-aviation users in several regions around the world are benefited from the enhanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) service provided by SBAS. However, there are many GNSS users who are unable to use the SBAS service because of the blockage of GEO signal or because of their legacy GNSS receivers. This paper therefore develops an open source internet software package to provide a secondary broadcast of data from SBAS to benefit these nonaviation GNSS users. This open source SBAS internet software package is implemented with C language and includes a server software package and a client software package. The server software package will enable a PC which connects with a GNSS/SBAS receiver to first obtain the SBAS messages and then enable this PC to work as a real time SBAS message monitor as well as a SBAS data server. GNSS users can login this SBAS data server to access these real time SBAS corrections via internet. GNSS users have two options to apply these SBAS corrections, first, users could implement their own software based on the standard SBAS interface document (for example, WAAS MOPS), second, they could download the client software package from our web site. Currently, our SBAS data server has data from two SBASs, one is from WAAS GEO (POR) and the other is from MSAS GEO (MTSAT- 1R). The data from WAAS is in the standard SBAS format, but the test signals from MSAS needs to be translated to the standard SBAS format because it is in testing mode. We use a laptop with a regular GPS receiver and a PDA with a Bluetooth GPS receiver to do our experiments, and both GPS receivers are single frequency non-SBAS receivers. Users have several options to access our SBAS data server including Wireless LAN (WLAN, IEEE 802.11), GSM/GPRS, and 3G. In our experiments we use the WLAN as our internet connection to access our internet based SBAS data server and download the client software package to enable these SBAS corrections. We get very promising results using internet to acquire corrections from MSAS even there is no WAAS or MSAS reference station in Taiwan. |
