Abstract: | In this paper u-blox 5, a low-cost highly-integrated A-GPS and Galileo L1 receiver chip-set, is presented. u-blox 5 allows both ultra-fast acquisition and high-precision tracking even at the lowest signal power levels, and it is fully selfcontained, providing antenna input to position data output processing in a single tiny package. In oder to address the problem of weak-signal acquisition and weak-signal tracking for scenarios such as indoor and urban-canyon navigation, existing GPS receiver concepts have been analyzed and successfully combined with novel, ad hoc developed ones. Thanks to a careful system design together with a meticulous chip partitioning and technology choice, a very costand power-efficient implementation has been obtained, which can successfully address the needs of the vastly expanding consumer-navigation device markets. |
