Abstract: | Precision of a few centimeters can be easily obtained by RTK-GPS positioning, as the range to the satellite is determined by carrier phase measurements. The authors tried network-based RTK-GPS positioning with FKP correction data dissemination via a geostationary satellite and investigated the performance of the network-based RTK-GPS positioning at several fixed points inside the area surrounded by the reference stations. The three reference stations are located in a near equilateral triangular configuration in the Kanto area in Japan, surrounding the center of Tokyo. The distances between the stations are 70.1 km, 63.9 km and 70.6 km, respectively. FKP data are disseminated every other second to all over Japanese Islands via a geostationary satellite located at 150 degrees in the east longitude. The age of the data at the observation points varies from 1.3 to 1.7 seconds due to the long propagation distance and data processing time of Internet Protocol. Thus the system used asynchronous mode positioning. Positioning is tried at three fixed observation points inside the area. They are located almost in a line at the center and about 10, 20, and 30 km from a reference station respectively. A reference station is prepared for the normal RTK-GPS positioning for comparison of the positioning results by FKP. VRS mode is also tested for comparison. The reference data of this case is transmitted via cell phone. The positioning results at 10, 20, and 30 km show that 2drms of the horizontal distribution of positioning by FKP were 1.96, 2.12, and 2.35 cm respectively and slightly better than those obtained by VRS. As for the position fix rates, on the contrary, VRS marked 100% at 10 and 20 km and was superior to FKP of 92 and 96 %. The positioning data by normal RTK-GPS were worse than those values at 10 and 20 km and not available at all at 30 km. |
