Abstract: | The Giove-A satellite was launched in late 2005 with the main mission objective to protect the Galileo frequency filings, the first of which expired in June 2006. Following a successful platform commissioning phase, payload operations began in early January and work began to commission the payload units and transmit the signals required to secure the frequency filings. The Giove-A satellite has three payload signal generator chains onboard to provide dual redundant operations. A description of the GIOVE-A payload is provided in this paper. The paper also contains the results of the payload testing during the commissioning, in-orbit test (IOT) phase and extended in-orbit test (E-IOT) phase of the Giove-A mission. Results include measurements taken with the 25m dish at the Chilbolton tracking station, data recovered from the Septentrio Galileo Experimental Test Receiver (GETR) and telemetry from the payload. |
