Abstract: | Multipath propagation causes errors to delay estimates and, thus, to location estimates. There exist a number of multipath error reduction techniques including delay lock loops with a narrow correlator spacing and multiparameter techniques like the maximum likelihood method, which typically are computationally rather demanding. This paper proposes a computationally simple multipath estimator based on the alternating projection (AP) algorithm, which is a way to solve the maximum likelihood problem. The algorithm uses the outputs of the code matched filter or the correlator bank, applies the AP algorithm simplified as much as possible to the found peak and, finally, interpolates to increase accuracy. The simulation results show that the multipath estimation capability of the proposed algorithm is better than that of the similar estimator using a single path model and the instantaneous early-late estimator. |
