A Localization System Using Geostationary Colocated Satellites For Location Based Services In Interactive TV

Markus Groß, Guy Harles, Georges Krier and Thomas Nicolay

Abstract: A new localization system that uses geostationary colocated satellites for the positioning of digital satellite receivers is presented. The system measures the range difference of two satellite links by estimating the propagation delay of DVB-S packets in the transport stream. The factors having an impact on the accuracy are considered by mathematical analysis. Accuracy predictions in form of simulations are performed proving the concept. Finally, the measurement results of a prototype implementation are presented.
