Characterization of Non-Linear Error Terms for Vibrating Beam Accelerometers

Ryan Sutherland and Lisa McMahan Overstreet

Abstract: This paper provides an introduction to non-linear error terms found in accelerometers. Quadratic and cubic non-linearities along the input, pendulous and output axes will be described along with the testing methodologies for determining these error parameters that are specifically related to vibrating beam accelerometers (VBA). Several types of tests will be discussed. Measurement error sources will be described along with methods to eliminate them.
