Carrier Phase Coherence as a Sequential Correlation Issue

James L. Farrell

Abstract: A GPS/INS integration approach requiring no cycle ambiguity resolution, already successfully validated with 1 - Hz updates of a low-cost IMU, was further investigated for phase continuity implications. Phase coherence extending across multiple measurements can be represented by an equivalent form involving sequentially correlated observations of incremental phase. Coherence over long durations is countered by IMU errors at present state of the art. Results are compared for two different algorithm versions.
