Driver Assistance And Awareness Applications Using Navigation System and Map Database

F. Ibrahim

Abstract: This paper introduces the map database as a sensor in driver assistance and awareness applications. The application usage of the map starts with the map matched position, then look ahead in the map from this map position to determine the Most Likely Driving Path (MLP), and process this MLP for driver assistance and awareness applications such as Curve Speed Warning (CSW) system, Predictive Adaptive Front Lighting system (PAFS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system, and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system. This work will also introduce the usage of the calculated MLP to modify the route guidance instruction, and the map matching position. The Map requirements and Navigation system interface for such application will also be introduced in this paper.
