Abstract: The paper describes the system developed for creation of Digital Terrain Model quickly and effectively. The system is based on GPS and GSM/GPRS technology. Precise RTK method is used for real time determination of horizontal and vertical coordinates of the points used in the model. Points are collected continuously with one second interval. The RTK corrections are transmitted via GPRS platform. The system of GPRS transmission of GPS corrections was developed in our University in cooperation with Biatel Company. The experimental network of GPS reference stations transmitting corrections using GPRS technology is still in the testing phase. The network consists of several GPS reference stations connected to the system's main server using IPSEC tunnels. The system's server collects data from all existing GPS reference stations, manages data and distributes data to mobile users in real time via GPRS. Distribution of corrections is possible using different GSM operators in Poland, which makes the system fully independent. In the paper the practical test of our system is also presented. Quite hilly area of about 5 hectares was selected as a test field. Measurement profiles going every 15 meters were designed and loaded into Thales Mobile Mapper receiver which was used for real time navigation. The practical measurement was very efficient due to the ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) used for the experiment. The measurement data were collected using two geodetic Ashtech receivers and two Thales Mobile Mappers with post-processing option. Trajectory determination of ATV with different GPS techniques (RTK, DGPS and EGNOS) was done. The accuracy characteristics of all trajectories of moving vehicle are given. Finally the Digital Terrain Model created during our experiment is presented.
