Performance Comparison between Point and Differential GPS/INS Systems

Yufeng Zhang and Yang Gao

Abstract: Although double differenced GPS measurements have been widely used in GPS/INS integrated systems, the advent of precise point positioning (PPP) methodology, which is capable of providing position accuracy at cm~dm level, has made it feasible to the development of point GPS/INS systems using un-differenced GPS measurements [Gao and Shen 2002]. This paper will investigate the achievable accuracy for a point GPS/INS system. The performance comparison between the point and differential GPS/INS will be conducted both theoretically and by computer simulation. Some field tests will be presented and the results will be assessed to confirm the theoretical result.
