Abstract: | "Recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), United States Coast Guard (USCG) and US Department of Transportation (DOT) technical and economic evaluations of the enhanced or eLoran system have demonstrated that eLoran can provide important capabilities to mitigate the loss of GPS in numerous applications. Since eLoranÕs role is primarily as a backup or complement to GPS, and users prefer to utilize a single device with a single operational interface, it is reasonable to assume that combined or integrated GPS/eLoran systems would have the greatest general utility. Such a system would provide users with a seamless transition from one technology to the other, and combined use of both technologies when appropriate. Locus has begun work on an integrated GPS/WAAS/eLoran system, the SatMate Plus, in which GPS and eLoran systems are collocated within a single enclosure and utilize the same electronics, user interface, etc. The SatMate Plus is based on commercial, off-theshelf GPS/WAAS technology and LocusÕ proprietary SatMate 1030 eLoran receiver and antenna system. The first SatMate Plus will be integrated within the SatMate 1030 receiver platform and establish a core technology useful for a number of different navigation and timing applications. The system will incorporate an H-field eLoran antenna and include a combined GPS/WAAS/eLoran antenna in a small radome. This paper reviews the development program, system architecture, and program status of this new SatMate Plus GPS/eLoran prototype system, and includes initial test results from the alpha system." |
