Abstract: | The future Galileo satellites will transmit a wide variety of signals modulated on four different carriers (E5a, E5b, E6 and L1). Novel signal processing techniques are required for these signals due primarily to the new modulation types (BOC and AltBOC), the presence of Pilot and Data channel at all frequencies and the bit demodulation implying deinterleaving and frame-by frame Viterbi decoding. In the framework of the C0 phase of the Galileo development, Septentrio has developed a Galileo receiver breadboard aiming at demonstrating acquisition, tracking and bit demodulation of all Galileo signals, analysing the measurement accuracy, and assessing the feasibility of implementation of the signal processing. As no Galileo satellite is present at the moment, a simple Galileo signal transmitter has been developed as well. The purpose of this paper is to present and analyse results of Galileo signal tracking using real hardware. First the Galileo signal characteristics and the associated signal processing are reviewed. Then the architecture of the breadboard and of the signal transmitter is described. Finally, tracking performance is evaluated based on real data. |
