Abstract: | This paper presents schemes for direct acquisition of P(Y) and M-code signals. P(Y) code was not designed to facilitate direct acquisition but rather through handover from the short and periodic C/A-code. Even so, recent technological advances and concern about C/A-code jamming which will make it unavailable have prompted the development of techniques suitable for search and acquisition of long code such as P(Y). M-code on the other hand, has built in features such as puncture code and frequency hopping signal that allow direct acquisition. Nevertheless the direct M-code acquisition still involves correlation and search processing. There are basically two types of algorithms, one that performs a search in the time domain and the other that employs computational savings from the processing in the frequency domain using the FFT. The former is becoming attractive due to the availability of massively parallel hardware correlators while the latter utilizes the processing capabilities of today’s fast processors. A trade-off analysis between the two approaches is presented with respect to the processing time, sensitivity and accuracy. Both techniques have been implemented using our software development toolset and tested side by side. The simulated receiver can be rather directly implemented into flexible processors providing a real time receiver. Plans for such implementation are described as well as simulation results for acquisition sensitivity and jamming immunity. |
