Abstract: Galileo's introduction in 2008 is expected to be the motor behind GNSS applications markets worldwide. Galileo will offer satellite positioning services with guaranteed reliability and independence to people all over the world. Individuals, companies, networks and administrations as well as many professional users will all benefit from GNSS systems, on the roads, on railways, in the sky and at sea. GNSS will increasingly be integrated into a wide range of applications and will be user-transparent. Moreover, for numerous emerging applications, especially in highly competitive domains, the temptation will be to rely only on GNSS systems for cost effectiveness. All sectors of the economy and our society are affected by the development of satellite radio navigation systems which, according to all the estimates, is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years. The market in products and services linked to this technology is growing at an annual rate of 25%. Satellite radio navigation has become part and parcel of the daily life of the European citizen, utilized not only in their cars and mobiles but also fostering inter modal mobility, modifying behaviors and improving civil protection systems – all of which improves quality of life. The development of applications will become a critical issue in parallel with the development of the Galileo program, and will benefit from several key component of the system. Toulouse and its region will host key elements of the Galileo program and together intend to foster the development of applications and services. In this framework, Grand Toulouse and the Midi- Pyrenees Region are committed to strengthening the satellite navigation sector and related downstream activity. The objective is to reinforce existing capabilities in particular for the development of applications and value added services using satellite navigation systems. This requires a full range of technical, economic and legal competencies which will be grouped together in the European Centre for Satellite Navigation Applications. This European centre will offer an unequalled environment fostering innovation from R&D to industrialization and commercialization of applications and services, providing the highest level of performances to satisfy the most demanding user communities and requirements. The objective is to improve user community mobility in any kind of environment, even the most demanding such as urban and indoor environments.
