Abstract: | Honeywell is currently finalizing its Honeywell Inertial GPS Hybrid (HIGH™) Integrity method for primary means navigation to less than Required Navigation Performance (RNP) 0.3. HIGH™ is designed to provide integrity for the navigation solution by providing the Horizontal Protection Level (HPL) and Vertical Protection Level (VPL) as defined in RTCA/DO-229C. The protection levels provide the assurance in the navigation solution that are required by the RTCA DO-236A containment methodology. However, we now see applicability of the HIGH™ capability to the tactical environment faced by today’s war fighter. The same HIGH™ functionality that provides cues and alerts relative to RNP air space for navigation lend themselves extremely well to mission accuracy and effectiveness in adverse conditions such as a GPS jamming field. This capability is ideally suited for precision weapon hand off and subsequent impact accuracy. As part of providing integrity for the integrated GPS/Inertial solution, HIGH™ generates key integrity parameters required by civil aviation authorities. These parameters include protection and uncertainty levels that define the quality of the current solution with the appropriate degree of confidence. Within the tactical environment this information can be adapted to assist the aircraft weapons systems or flight crew in determining the likelihood of successfully accomplishing mission objectives. This paper will discuss our approach and potential applications of Tactical HIGH™ as a decision tool for the pilot/ aircrew in determining the probability of mission success. |
