Analysis of Satellite Clock Correction for GPS/WAAS User Pseudorange

Sheng Y. Hwang, and Prem K. Munjal

Abstract: In order to assure navigation accuracy and data integrity, a GPSIWAAS message provides the user with correction data for SV clock offset and a statistical error bound. These so-called satellite fast correction and UDRE algorithms have been designed by the WAAS contractor. However, the contractor’s UDRE algorithm has been evolving, and the latest documented version cannot be validated by statistical theory. For the purposes of presenting a statistical basis of the UDRE as well as providing a backup UDRE algorithm, a rigorous and thorough analysis of the WAAS satellite clock correction, correction error and its statistical bound is given in this paper. Based on applicable sampling theory or Bayesian inference, various error bounds are derived for different possible assumptions on the measurement noise statistics and on the latency error statistics. Discussions are given for many aspects of practical implementation.
