GPS Fast Acquisition Direct to Y-Code In The Presence of Dynamics

Farrell Perdreauville, Edwin Jones, Randy Rosenthal, Ralph Wardlaw

Abstract: Fast Global Positioning System (GPS) acquisition, direct to Y-code during dynamic conditions of motion was demonstrated on a rocket sled. First solution under static conditions have been obtained consistently in 4 seconds. First solution on the sled was obtained in less than 6 seconds during a constant velocity phase that followed an initialization process and a 239 boost to 1066 feet per second. The initialization procedure was designed to be compatible with rapid preparation and fire-and-forget operational doctrine. This accomplishment demonstrated a capability that was part of a program to develop technologies applicable to low cost guidance for tactical munitions.
