Abstract: | The European Space Agency (ESA) started a set of internal activities targeting the provision of EGNOS service through internet that could have major benefits, in particular to users with poor GEO visibility, and also for enlarging the use of EGNOS for different institutions, for example in scientific applications (SISNeT technology). In this context, GMV's SISNeT project is intended to provide a step forward in the SISNeT implementation while integrating its results in a more general EGNOS TRAN project (ESA-Telespazio). The objectives of GMV's SISNeT project can be summarized as follows: •·Development of a SISNeT Receiver able to provide an "EGNOS navigation solution" based on the data provided by a GPS receiver and the corrections provided by SISNET service. • To provide consultancy to ESA on Internet related issues allowing future improvements in SISNeT service mainly as far as performance and security is concerned. • To support Telespazio in the demonstration of the SISNeT concept by integrating the receiver developed by GMV in an operational application. One of the main goals of the project is to implement a User Application, which will provide wireless EGNOS services to land-mobile users through the Internet. The SISNeT Base Station and Data Server on the SISNeT Control Centre communicate via GPRS with the SISNeT Receiver. The SISNeT Receiver obtains EGNOS messages in real-time, and a GPS receiver inside provides pseudo-range measurements, also in real time. The underlying software takes the raw measurements and applies the EGNOS corrections, obtaining a significant improvement of the positioning accuracy and availability. Besides the development of the receiver, the principal aim is to test the receiver in an operational environment. For such objective, a battery of tests has been designed, using an actual network of urban buses at Valladolid (Spain). A detailed review of the architecture, development and results is presented. |
