Abstract: Europe is developing two own satellite navigation systems, EGNOS and GALILEO, and the Air Traffic Service Providers are preparing to adapt themselves to substantial technological changes in aircraft equipment and in-flight procedures. A consortium led by GMV has developed for AENA, the Spanish Air Traffic Service Provider, the ISAGNSS system. This experimentation infrastructure will allow evaluating with flight tests the new navigation procedures that EGNOS and GALILEO will make possible. To achieve this objective, the system works with last-generation avionics equipment integrating different GPS, SBAS and GBAS GNSS receivers, and real-time avionics data acquisition and analysis tools. Finally, powerful on ground post-processing capabilities complete the system for GNSS data analysis and demonstration. The system comprises three different elements: ·• A Beechcraft A-100 aircraft with enhanced avionics, • An On board Operator Console, • Ground equipment, which consists of: • A portable Reference Station, as a part of a trajectography system, • A static SBAS Monitoring Unit. • A Central Processing System for off-line post-processing analyses. The system has been tested successfully with the EGNOS System Test Bed (ESTB) Signal In Space (SIS), and its operability has been proved in flight trials in Sion (Switzerland) for EUROCONTROL, and in Seville (Spain) for AENA. Therefore, ISAGNSS is ready to test the real EGNOS signal, as soon as it will start to be broadcast in test mode along the current year 2003. The article provides a detailed description of the system elements, the capabilities and flight operations it is ready to perform, and results from the different flight trials that are currently being carried out.
