Galileo: Status and Way Forward

R. Grohe, J. Tjaden

Abstract: This paper begins by outlining the institutional set-up, which was put in place for the development and validation phase of the Galileo Programme, and the interrelationship between the various actors involved. A key aspect of this is the newly formed Galileo Joint Undertaking (JU), and as such the roles and remit of the JU, its decision-making processes and the possibilities for other partners to join it in the future will be highlighted. One of the major tasks of the JU will be the launch of the concession awarding process by which the entity responsible for the full deployment and operation of Galileo will be chosen. This process and the way it will be managed will be addressed. Finally, a brief description of the current status of the program is given as a precursor to the outlining of the latest planning for the development and validation phase of the program. This will include the latest baseline design, including the space and ground segment, and the key technological and programmatic objectives of the development and validation phase.
