RTK Receiver Design with the L2 Civil Signal, Performance and Improvements with Respect to (Semi-) Codeless Techniques

Abstract: The world of single frequency L1 receivers and dual frequency L1/L2-P(Y) receivers using semi-codeless techniques will be modified when the new L2 Civil Signal (L2-CS) will be available. The new signal should allow to build more simple and cheaper receivers with a performance similar to the dual L1/L2-P(Y) semi-codeless receivers. This paper tries to quantify -first theoretical and then with simulations- the performance improvement that the new signal can contribute in both real-time kinematic (RTK) receiver classes.
