Abstract: | The U.S. Army Engineer Topcgraphic Laboratories has tractedAdr.oktodesignand auxbuct a working GPS Azimuth Determining System. TheAIXSisintendedtobeaninstrumentthatwillbeused cm atripodto measureazimuth and elevation for aiming artillery. The instrument is a type of electronic compassandtheu3olitethatisimmunetolcslvariations of magnetism and gravity. . TheAzimuthDeterrrrrmng System (ADS) will measure azimuth andelevaticnfrumthepointofthek&rmenttoapoint thatthe instrument is sighted to. Itwill use Global Positioning System (GPS) C/A signals to determine position, azimuth and elevation. Position will be detemksdbytimeofarrival-. Azimuth and elevaticnwillbede&?minedbyreceiving'cheGpS signals at multiple antennas and using carrier phase int%rf~trJcalcuLate theanglebetweentheantenna baseline and the transmitting satellites. The system is comprised of two GPS antennas that are mounted 1 meter apart, a GPS receiver that can simultanfxusly measure carrier phase received on each antenna, and software to determine the instrument's position, azimuth, and elevation. |
