Abstract: | For the past eight years NAVSWC has been striving to demonstrate and develop a capability for using the GPS to determine orientation and ve rcle attitude. This overview presentation includes a brief discussion of (1) early static azimuth and elevation estimates, (2) an astronomic azimuth comparison between conventional stellar measurements and a new technique that employs geodetic azimuths determined from GPS, (3) a dynamic ship’s heading test using a prototype three-antenna receiver built by Trimble Navigation, Ltd., and (4) an internal Independent Exploratory Development (IED) project to Berform covariance analyses of combined multiple antenna PS and inertial navigation and to validate the results with GPS attitude determination testing. |
