Abstract: | As the Global Positioning System (GPS) comes closer to reality, more and more consideration is being given to prospects of providing an economical differential service to the user community. Such a service has recently been announced by COMSAT Mobile Communications Division for availability in 1990 through the INMARSAT satellite system. In his paper, Dr. Slack describes the INMARSAT system and how it can be used to provide a global differential GPS-(DGPS) service, the COMSAT approach towards implementing the service, and ways in which the service is expected to evolve in the future. |
