GPS LlIL2 P-Code Time Transfer System

Abstract: The STelS401 Time Transfer System (ITS) is a timing signal generator that provides timing aligned to GPS or UTC time. This system allows geographically diverse users to synchronize to a common time base to an accuracy of less than ten (10) nanosecond uncertainty. The STel 5401 is an Ll/L2 P-Code system with SA/AS capability. Utilization of the GPS Precision Code (P-Code) and LlA.2 signals provides the capability for correction of timing uncertainty due to ionospheric delay. The SA/AS capability ensures continuous timing accuracy even during GPS accuracy denial periods. The TTS 5401 system consists of a two channel P-Code GPS receiver and a timing generator controlled by an Application Processor. The system receives the GPS navigation signals and aligns a 1 PPS and 10 MHz output to GPS time. Control of satellite tracking schedules, receiver operational mode (self survey or time transfer) and system setup is accomplished via a serial link to a PC or via an optional front panel display. Remote control of the unit is available via the serial communication port. This paper presents the design of the unit along with prototype test results.
