Omega Systems Status Update - 1990

Robert J. Wenzel

Abstract: During the past year, the Coast Guard Omega Navigation System Center (ONSCEN) has directed a considerable amount of activity on such projects as the Omega System Performance Assessment, the Omega Regional Validation Program conclusion, an examination of Omega Predicted Propagation Correction models, and a major transmitting station electronics equipment field change. These and other ONSCEN projects are described. A review of the several large civil engineering projects at the Omega transmitting stations is provided. These are particularly of interest in that they had a major impact on the 1990 update to the U.S. Federal Radionavigation Plan. Noteworthy station events such as the extensive Hawaii station off-air and the civil unrest in Liberia are described. A brief report is made on the status of the new "GPS Information System Center" mission of ONSCEN.
